SULFUR
THE BREAKDOWN Sulfur is a mainstay of all proteins, and is therefore an essential mineral for all people. Cystine, Cysteine and Methionine are the amino acids inside the body in which Sulfur is found. The rest exist in body cells in the form of Sulfates.

Protein contains high level of Sulfur and is a component of collagen, the protein that strengthens the teeth, bones and connective tissues. It is also abundant in Keratin, which strengthens the hair, skin and nails. Sulfur help to give definition and shape to tissues. It also plays a key role in changing fat and carbohydrates into energy. The cells in the body are provided oxygen by the presence of Sulfur. Sulfur also helps to produce growth hormones and insulin.

IN THE BODY
Amino acids help to absorb Sulfur in the small intestine, and are tossed away in urine and feces.

WITHDRAWALS
There are no dangers from a lack of Sulfur. The danger lies with the amount of protein that exists in the body, not the Sulfur levels.

NATURAL FORMS
Eggs, beans, dairy, meat, seafood and mustard are great natural sources of Sulfur. Sulfates can also be found in water, fruit and vegetables, but not in high amounts.

DAILY DOSE
850 mg a day is enough for most humans.

OVER DOSAGE
You cannot overdose from too much Sulfur.

SUPPLEMENTS
Supplements of Sulfur can be used to loosen constipation problems, to treat severe acne, psoriasis and eczema. With scabies, a lotion form of the supplement is often applied. If you are suffering from arthritis, bathing in water with Sulfur can be helpful.
