IODINE
THE BREAKDOWN Helps with the body's metabolism and growth spurts.

IN THE BODY
The body has no problems taking in Iodine. When there is too much, it is simply discarded in the urine.

WITHDRAWALS
Without the proper amount of Iodine in the body, the possibility for hypothyroidism, goiter and cretinism are greatly increased. Lack of Iodine is also thought to be a reason for fibrocystic breast disease.

NATURAL FORMS
Natural forms of Iodine can be found in soil, salt, dairy products and seafood. The amount of Iodine in food depends on where that food is grown.

DAILY DOSE
  • Women and Men 150 mcg
  • During pregnancy 175 mcg
  • During lactation 200 mcg

OVER DOSAGE
Acne, a loss of thyroid hormone secretion and enlargement of the salivary glands are all possibilities when an excess amount of Iodine is taken.

SUPPLEMENTS
Treating fibrocystic breast cancer and deficiency problems are proper uses of Iodine supplements. Topical Iodine is often used as an antiseptic.

WARNINGS
You should consult your doctor before taking any Iodine supplements, especially if you are dealing with cardiac diseases, acne, heat cramps or severe dehydration.
