 | THE BREAKDOWN Combined with Hydrogen, Chloride makes Hydrochloric acid, better known as stomach acid.
IN THE BODY If the body has too much Chloride, it simply disposes of it as it would any other liquid-in the stool or urinary tract. If your diet is high in salt, the loss of Chloride can be greater during urination. If you are in the early stages of rickets, cirrhosis of the liver or pneumonia, the body does not absorb the proper amount of Chloride.
WITHDRAWALS Lack of Chloride does not occur too often. When it does, it is known as Alkalosis, and this takes places when you sweat or work too hard. Lack of Chloride in the body can cause loss of strength, balance and appetite.
NATURAL FORMS Salt, yeast, packaged meats, olives, seaweed and bread are all natural forms of Chloride.
DAILY DOSE Although the daily requirement is 750 mg, most Americans consume an average of 5000 mg a day in their diets.
OVER DOSAGE You can't really overdose on Chloride. The same affects having too much salt in your diet (high blood pressure, clots, heart and kidney disease and anemia) can take place with too much chloride. Again, this usually comes with too much salt in your diet. |
