Anemia
Types of Anemia:

Anemia is a deficiency of red blood cells. Anemia is classified according to three types of causes - nutritional deficiency, excessive blood destruction, and depression of bone marrow.

Anemia resulting from nutritional deficiency usually involves a lack of iron or protein. Other nutrients, such as niacin, copper, vitamin C, or Vitamin B-12, may be involved. Chronic blood loss can also lead to iron deficiency anemia.

Excessive blood destruction may result from exposure to toxic chemicals, certain diseases of blood-forming organs, viral infections, or from hereditary causes, which is rare.

Depression of the bone marrow may be due to toxicity or hypersensitivity, as from certain drugs and other toxic substances or from chronic kidney disease. Healthy bone marrow activity is needed for proper blood production.

The average person may be able to correct certain types of anemia by using simple home remedies.

Treatment :

1. Drink plenty of water. Drink two glasses before breakfast, two in the midmorning, and again in the mid-afternoon, and one to two glasses at night.

2. Eat a diet replete with green, leafy vegetables. Whole-grain breads, cereals and beans are excellent blood builders. Avoid dairy products as they contain very little iron and tend to bind iron present in other foods. Eat dry fruit frequently, especially peaches and apricots.

3. Rest adequately to help the body repair and rebuild blood cells. Eight hours of sleep each night is recommended for most adults. Too little or too much sleep does not help the condition.

4. Avoid nervous tension. Exercise helps to neutralize tension.

5. Exercise stimulates the bone marrow to produce blood cells. Exercise also promotes the absorption of iron from the intestine.

6. Sunshine stimulates blood production and promotes general good health. Vitamin D assists in the making of blood and can be obtained in adequate quantities from daily sun exposure. At least six-inches square of the skin should be exposed to the sunlight everyday.

7. Fresh air is essential for cleansing the blood. Good posture and deep breathing of pure air is a good way to build blood and to nourish the cells of the body. Breathing clean air also provides a natural protection against anemia.

8. Proper clothing of the extremities keeps circulation equalized between the trunk and extremities. Habitual chilling of the extremities taxes the body. Chilling of the blood will decrease the rate at which blood cells are made.

9. Chronic blood loss, as from excessive menstruation or daily loss of small quantities of blood due to a bleeding point in the gastrointestinal tract, decreases the body's iron stores. These conditions should be corrected promptly by consulting a physician.

10. To stimulate the bone marrow and blood circulation, take short cold baths. Adjust the temperature of the water in the tub between 40 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The colder the temperature, the less time is spent in the shower. Try a 30-second shower at 40 to 50 degrees, a one-minute shower at 60 to 70 degrees, a two-minute shower at 70 to 80 degrees, a three-minute shower at 80 to 85 degrees, and a three and a half-minute shower at 90 degrees.
